Kids empowering kids: turning compassion into action

Apr 16, 2024

We all know how small acts of kindness can snowball into huge impact. Today, we’re excited to share how the kindness of children truly inspires a brighter future for kids just like them. In this special edition blog, I Can for Kids (iCAN) celebrates the compassion and contributions of Arin Gohill, an amazing young man who joined our team of champions in 2017, when he was just six years old!

Something small can ignite a spark

Recently, Arin sent us a heartfelt video message about what inspires him to continue giving to iCAN. A bright and compassionate soul, his words are wise-beyond-his-years: “I feel that just something small that is given to someone can ignite a spark. If others around the world can look out for the needy, create something that brings the light into action, something that revolves around the help towards others, then a goal to make an even better society will be possible.”

Bring the light to action

What makes Arin’s story particularly touching is his unwavering dedication. He continues to stand by thousands of his peers whose families struggle with food insecurity. Arin’s core message is truly inspiring: while his individual donation might seem small, when paired with the generosity of others, the combined contribution is powerful.

It’s so easy to become a champion too!

Just like Arin, it’s easy for us all to become an advocate in our own community. Here are a few simple ideas to inspire you:

  • Spread the Word: Share iCAN’s mission and innovative programming with individuals and organizations across your networks. Despite our technology-driven world, word-of-mouth remains the most powerful force for awareness, inspiration, and change.
  • Get informed: Sign up for our monthly newsletter. Just one email per month. That’s it. Hear stories from the families who access our program. Discover more about the most effective ways to tackle food insecurity.
  • Get social: Join us on Instagram, LinkedIn, or Facebook. Talk to your friends and family about our mission and inspire them to join the movement.
  • Organize a FUNdraiser: Host a bake sale, lemonade stand, or car wash with your friends and raise some funds for our cause. Be sure to send us photos!
  • Donate: Every contribution, big or small, makes a major difference. Visit our website to donate securely online.

Thank you, Arin!

Arin embodies the spirit of empowerment and dignity that defines our mission. Every week, the families and children who access our program tell us how our donors offer them so much more than immediate support. They view all our champions and supporters as symbols of hope, respect, and most importantly, a neighbour who truly cares. We extend our deepest gratitude to Arin and all our donors – age ‘fresh to seasoned’ – for shaping a much stronger tomorrow for the next generation.

Together, we’re all creating a world where compassion and generosity prevail, one act of kindness at a time!
