I Can for Kids (iCAN) was thrilled to be one of three charities supported at Macquarie’s 8th annual charity fundraiser—a night that truly raised the bar!

With nearly 400 attendees at the Mix-Off themed event, this has grown into one of Calgary’s largest corporate charitable fundraisers, raising over $14 million for local charities since its inception in 2015. This year’s event raised over $2.5 million, inclusive of matching from Macquarie Group in accordance with its Non-Profit Support Policy.

Macquarie’s matching support truly stands out by offering unrestricted funds, which gives organization’s like iCAN the flexibility to allocate resources where they’re needed most. This allows non-profits like iCAN to address pressing challenges, pursue innovative projects, and strengthen their operational foundations, ultimately boosting their ability to create a bigger impact.

Macquarie’s fundraiser in Calgary exemplifies the Foundation’s employee-led approach to giving,” said Pritha Mittal, Macquarie Group Foundation Regional Director, Americas. “For eight years, our people in Calgary have demonstrated what can be accomplished when staff partner with clients united by the common goal of giving back to the local community in which they live and work.”

Thanks to the generous backing of Macquarie and our donors, every dollar iCAN raised will be invested in expanding our reach and impact, supporting thousands more food-insecure children and families in Calgary and beyond.

We raise our glass to Dylan Johnson from Macquarie and Ryan Berrett from ARC Resources for their invaluable partnership, as well as to Macquarie’s dedicated staff, clients, and the broader community who champion our mission to empower vulnerable children and families.

To top off the evening—our team’s signature cocktail, the “Razzahoochee,” took home the trophy and title of Best Cocktail, as voted by guests! It was a refreshing finish to an unforgettable event.

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped make this fundraiser a huge success!

Empowering families: how our program works

When I Can for Kids (iCAN) initiated our grocery gift card program in 2020, we soon recognized how the income-based nature of our approach led to a greater sense of resilience, trust, and community belonging among families struggling with food insecurity. We also realized that continuing our cross-sector collaboration was key to maximizing our impact. This approach allowed our grassroots charity to reach vulnerable children through a cohesive and centralized response to food insecurity across Calgary and the surrounding area.
