I Can for Kids Foundation is transforming how Albertans fight childhood food insecurity. Their research-driven model helped almost 50,000 kids last year alone.

Instead of food hampers, I Can for Kids distributes grocery gift cards. They purchase the cards in bulk from major stores and distribute them through social service agencies, public healthcare programs, and other community partners in and around Calgary and throughout Central Alberta.

“Our approach empowers families to shop where everybody else shops – in their local grocery store,” says Bobbi Turko, Executive Director. “They can predictably choose the foods they need, appropriate to their culture and health needs, when and where it works best for them.”

Families who receive grocery gift cards get more than just food. They get the power to plan, purchase, and provide fresh and healthy meals their kids need, know, and love — simply by shopping at their local grocery store.
